Weekend Academy Report

Another great set of matches over the weekend for our academy sides. Lots of positives to take away and the lads enjoying their football.
U12s
A tough match for our U12s over the weekend as we came up against TNS. It was a solid start to the game, with the lads staying organised and holding their shape well. However TNS began to cut through us with overloads in wide areas and getting shots off from outside the box. We planned to play long and exploit the space in behind them which paid off just before halftime when we got a goal back. However our opponents didn’t take their foot off the gas and ended up winning the match. A good competitive game for our lads who will learn from the experience and continue to improve.
U13s
There was a bit of panic between both teams, nervous energy being the first game and a game that meant so much to our lads. We went ahead 20 mins into the first half, a great finish past the keeper for Theo. However TNS got one back to make it 1-1 going into halftime. It ended up being a very frustrating second half for everyone. TNS got a goal against the run of play and kept the momentum going, ending the match 4-1 to them. However, the attitude of our players was top notch right till the final whistle. Special mention to Cai and Rhys who didn’t stop rallying our lads. Still lots of positives from the game as a whole, the lads will continue to improve from competitive matches like this one.
U15s and U16s
The 15s and 16s had an in-house game between them. A very good run out for both sides. The 16s were better in the 1st half, going 2-0 up with goals from Harry Richardson and Whalen. The second half the 15s come out playing some good football, Owain Wynne scoring a great individual goal from left back. And Harry Jones equalised with a well worked team goal. Both teams pushed for the win and it could have gone either way. In the end it finished 2-2 with both teams taking positives from the game. Whalen was MOM for the 16s and Deacon Hughes MOM for the 15s, well done lads!
U19s
A great performance from our 19s on the weekend who were unlucky not to grab all 3 points against Airbus. The lads dominated the game, were brave in the press and played on the front foot. The match ended 2-2, very frustrating for our lads who worked so hard and played so well. However we will continue our good work in training this week and look to go one better next match!
Overall a competitive round of fixtures for our academy sides over the weekend. A lot of positives to take and areas to continue working on.
More than just a football club.
