Match Report: Ruthin Town FC vs Druids

A brilliant brace by our returning signing Tom Reilly, in the first minute and last minute of the match, was enough for Druids to grab a big 2-1 win away at Ruthin Town last night.
Another youthful side made the trip to Ruthin Town last night with a number of our EDS players stepping up again into the first team. However, we were happy to have the returning signing of midfielder Tom Reilly back in the squad after his international clearance came through earlier in the day. He went straight into the starting 11.
It didn’t take him long to open his account for Druids as we got off to the perfect start! Less than a minute into the match, Ross Weaver won the ball on the right-hand side and fired a pass into Reilly on the edge of the box. He took a good first touch and got his shot away quickly to find the bottom corner and put us 1-0 up! A great start for Druids who were playing with plenty of confidence.
However, our opponents stayed in the game and got their equaliser on 15 minutes. Jamie Cumming whipped a free kick beyond Jones in the Druids goal to make it 1-1. A tough blow for the lads but still plenty of time left in the match. We went into half time all square after a solid first half performance, hoping to get another goal in the second period.
Druids showed a great work rate in the second 45. The EDS lads stepping up were brilliant, keeping the ball moving and putting their bodies on the line for the team. Michael Jones also pulled off a few massive saves to keep us in the game. We got our reward in the final minute of the match. A cross into the Ruthin box was headed clear to Reilly again about 25 yards out. No one closed him down quick enough and he was able to get a good touch out of his feet and hit a fine strike that just dipped under the crossbar to give us the lead!
Looked like Reilly was struggling for air as there was a massive pile on in the corner celebrations!
We held out for the remaining seconds for a fine 2-1 victory!
A brilliant performance by the entire squad and a special mention to all the EDS players who put a great shift in and didn’t look out of place at all in first team football.
Our next match is in the Nathaniel MG Cup, this Friday night, 7:45pm at The Rock against Buckley Town.
Come on you Druids!
