Match Report: Llanidloes Town vs Druids

A brilliant reaction yesterday from Druids, as we got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory away at Llanidloes Town. Goals from Nick Grogan and Callum Stephens.

Manager Neil Ashton was looking for a reaction from his players following a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Gresford the week before. It was a great news to have Phil Mooney return to bolster our backline.

The lads looked up for the challenge and got off to the perfect start on 12 minutes. A corner for Druids was whipped in towards the far post by Tom Reilly. Nick Grogan was there to meet it, and his looping header evaded everyone and found the net to give us a 1-0 lead!

However an instant reaction from the hosts, who on 15 minutes levelled the score. A long goal kick by the Llanidloes keeper somehow found its way through our backline. Forward Connor Bird snuck in to take it around Michael Jones in the Druids goal and tap home to make it 1-1.

A disappointing goal to concede from a Druids perspective as we were punished for not dealing with the long ball. However the lads kept battling and working for each other. On 34 minutes we got back in front through another corner. From the same side, again an excellent delivery from Tom Reilly towards the far post, this time headed in by Callum Stephens to make it 2-1 Druids!

We went into the break 2-1 up, with a big second half on the way.

It was a scrappier second 45 as both sides were battling for the all important next goal. The lads stayed organised and kept the intensity levels high. Eventually the clock ran out and the referee blew for full-time for an excellent away win for Druids!

We remain fourth in the league, only 5 points behind third and second. The lads get a bit of a break now as the Welsh Cup fixtures are on next weekend. We return to action on Tuesday the 17th when we make the trip to Mold Alexandra.

Overall a great performance and result for the lads yesterday.

We keep going!
