Match Report: Glantraeth FC vs Cefn Druids

Another great result and performance by Druids on Saturday at Glantraeth FC. We progressed to the next round of the Welsh Cup after a fine 5-0 victory.

We made the trip over to Anglesey on Saturday with confidence after back-to-back league wins. Although in a lower division, Neil Ashton and his side were not taking Glantraeth lightly and were prepared for a tough battle.

We got off to the perfect start when midfielder Charlie McMahon slotted home on 3 minutes to make it 1-0 Druids. The early lead settled the lads down and we started playing some really positive football, pushing Glantraeth back. However our opponents stayed organised, frustrating Druids who just couldn’t seem to find that final ball. We went into the break 1-0 up, but looking to stay positive and confident that more chances would come.

We came out for the second half continuing our play and earned a penalty on 49 minutes, which was calmly dispatched by Adam Stephens. Following the goal, the floodgates opened for Druids and Stephens got his second of the afternoon not long after to make it 3-0. Callum Stephens also grabbed a brace before full-time to make it 5-0 Druids!

An excellent, professional performance which would surely have pleased manager Neil Ashton. It was also great to see more of our EDS players step up and get minutes for the first team. They are looking like great additions to the squad and highlights the outstanding work being done in our academy to prepare these rising stars.

We return to league action this Saturday at The Rock when we welcome Buckley Town.

More than just a football club.
