Match Report: Futsal Club Cardiff v Druids – Leg 2

A heartbreaking finale for Druids Futsal, who held a 5-4 lead going into the FAW Futsal League Final. However, an extra time goal for Futsal Club Cardiff was enough for them to win overall and send them to the UEFA Futsal Champions League.
Druids travelled to the Cardiff City House of Sport with the narrow 5-4 lead over Futsal Club Cardiff from the 1st leg. The match kicked off and Cardiff quickly drew level in the tie through McDowell, before Williams restored the Druids lead from a well worked set piece. Both sides created good scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert, the first half came to an end with all still to play for.
The second half began and both sides showed a brilliant defensive discipline for the first 10 minutes. Cardiff got the first of the half as Rodriguez escaped a challenge and poked it into the net. Druids responded a minute later as Dobson and Rogers linked up to make the score 7-6 with 90 seconds to play. Druids were on the brink of a second successive UEFA Champions League campaign but with seconds to go, Nelson scored for Cardiff to take the game into extra time.
Both teams battled and pushed for the winning goal but it wasn’t to be for Druids as Maynard converted to put Cardiff in the lead for the first time over the 2 legs. Druids played fly in the 2nd period of extra time but couldn’t find the equaliser. The game finished 8-7, securing Cardiff the FAW Futsal League Trophy.
An agonising defeat for Druids, but a huge congratulations to the squad for another fine campaign. We will hope to go one better next season! We would also like to wish Futsal Club Cardiff all the best when they represent Wales in the UEFA Futsal Champions League.
More than just a football club.
