A tough evening for Druids on Friday night as Holywell Town put on a fine performance at The Rock, running out 3-0 winners.
It was a positive opening half hour or so for Druids who were well on top at the beginning of the game. A good cross in from the left-hand side by Jaden Timmis was headed just wide by Adam Stephens. We created another big chance soon after when Mitchell Williams did well in the box to create a shooting angle for himself, but his left footed effort went just over the bar. Druids looked confident in their play and continued to test the opposition keeper. However, around the 40th minute mark Holywell took the lead. A corner whipped towards the far post was headed in through a bundle of bodies by Danny Sullivan, to make it 1-0.
We went into the break disappointed to be trailing, but were aiming to continue our positive play in front of goal to get back into it.
The second half began and it was Holywell who started the better side. They were playing with confidence after going ahead and weren’t taking their foot off the gas. They doubled their lead on 53 minutes after a fine cross to the back stick was headed in again, this time through Dave Forbes. The Wellmen kept organised and were breaking on Druids down the wings. They finished the game off on 64 minutes when Dave Forbes again cut in off the right wing and found the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
Druids kept pressing on in the final stages and had a great chance to get back into it. Adam Stephens went through one on one but the Holywell keeper produced a fine save down low to his left and we were just unable to bundle in the rebound.
A tough evening for Druids but credit to Holywell who put on a solid display after their first goal went in. However, we have a chance to make things right, as we are back in action tomorrow on Bank Holiday Monday when we travel to Conwy Borough.
More than just a football club.
