Match Report: Druids vs Haverfordwest County

A disappointing afternoon for Druids at The Rock on Saturday, as Haverfordwest showed fine form in front of goal. It finished 6-1 to The Bluebirds.

Another youthful Druids squad was selected as the season draws to a close, while Haverfordwest were looking to avoid the drop with three points at The Rock. The match kicked off and both sides had a number of half chances to test the keeper early. Charley Edge and Niall Flint were both looking threatening, but Haverfordwest keeper Lee Idzi was equal to their efforts so far.

The match was quite even for the opening 20 minutes or so until a good delivery from the visitors was headed in at the far post by Ryan George. Haverfordwest lifted following the goal and put Druids to the sword shortly after with two more. Jazz Richards tapping home at the far post followed by a questionable penalty decision against Druids, which was dispatched by Jordan Davies. Ioan Evans did restore a bit of hope for Druids on 39 minutes after he struck a fine free kick from the edge of the area that left Idzi no chance, making it 3-1. However, The Bluebirds responded well following our goal and put the game to bed soon after. Richards got his second and another penalty went to the visitors, to make it 5-1 going into halftime.

Druid’s defending improved in the second half as neither side could really break each other down. Then more drama in the last 10 minute when Haverfordwest defender Aleric Jones was sent off for a second bookable offence, before Druids defender Nacho Torres was also sent off with a second yellow after giving away a penalty in the final minute. Jazz Richards scored the penalty to complete his hattrick as it finished 6-1 to Haverfordwest.

Disappointment for Druids who gave away three penalties throughout the match, which were all dispatched by The Bluebirds. The visitors showed composure in front of goal to rightfully claim all three points.

With three more games to go of the season, we turn our attention now to Friday night when we travel to Aberystwyth Town FC.

More than just a football club.
