Match Report: Druids vs Buckley Town FC

A brilliant performance and result for Druids yesterday, as we ran out 3-1 winners at The Rock. A goal from Adam Stephens followed by a brace from Josh Lock was enough for all 3 points.

Druids went into the match yesterday brimming with confidence after coming off 3 straight victories. Two in the league over Guilsfield and Llanidloes followed by a 5-0 victory at Glantraeth last weekend in the Welsh Cup. The lads had worked hard in training during the week and were prepared for a tough battle against Buckley Town. Equal on points with us going into the match, a win could see us break away from the mid-table pack and put pressure on the top 3.

The match kicked off on a lovely afternoon at The Rock, but both sides were immediately battling to take control of the game. Buckley had positive spells of possession and really put the pressure on Druids, but the lads did well to stay composed and work their way into the game. Our backline, led by Phil Mooney and captain Michael Jones in goal, were keeping the lads organised and frustrating our opponents.

A very tight first half, but just before the break, Adam Stephens did excellently to open the scoring for us with a clinical finish. We went into halftime 1-0 up, but still a big job ahead of us second half.

It proved to be a physical battle out there with a number of big challenges flying in and yellow cards going to both sides. However, we stayed composed and went 2-0 up when Josh Lock found the net on 56 minutes! A great moment for Druids but Buckley immediately responded with a superb strike from Jake Roberts to make it 2-1. Nervy times for Druids as Buckley had their tails up and were looking for their equaliser.

Druids did very well to stay in the game and find their rhythm again. We killed the game off in the 75th minute when Josh Lock got his second of the match to make it 3-1! We defended well and stayed organised for the remaining 15 minutes to see the game out and earn a massive 3 points!

An excellent performance all around and manager Neil Ashton will be very pleased with the effort and quality shown by his players. The win moves us up into the top 4, only 3 points behind Llandudno in third.

An excellent day overall for the club at The Rock. However the hard work continues as we are back in action next Saturday with a tough trip away to Gresford Athletic.

We keep going!
