Not too much to discuss in today’s match report. A cold, miserable day at Chirk yesterday and the match wasn’t much better. Both sides battled well for a breakthrough, but nothing seemed to come off, as it ended 0-0.
We came into this game off the back of an excellent home win against Mold Alexandra last weekend, moving us up to fourth. It was a cold, wet afternoon at Holyhead Road and the lads were looking to grind out a positive result.
Manager Neil Ashton named a similar starting lineup to last weekend’s win. The match kicked off and our strike force of Adam and Callum Stephens were working hard to try and get onto the long balls, but the Chirk defence were making it difficult for them to bring it down and get shots off. A very physical game on the grass yesterday as both sides battled well to try and get control of the ball.
It was proving difficult to play a possession based game on the surface. A lot of long balls up the pitch gave the Druids and Chirk defence work to do to win headers and second balls. In the end, neither side could really create enough chances to take the lead and it ended all square at Holyhead Road.
Despite the result, a good battle by the Druids lads who were up for the fight and still managed a valuable point on the road. The draw sees us remain in fourth, but still work to do to close the gap on the top three.
Our next fixture is actually at home again against Chirk on Wednesday the 7th December. We look forward to seeing fans back at The Rock supporting the lads!
More than just a football club.
