Less than a week since our last meeting, Druids welcome Newtown to The Rock in our penultimate home game of the season.
Our last meeting with The Robins six days ago ended in a convincing win for our opponents, with ex Druids James Davies and Jordan Evans both getting on the scoresheet. Newtown played out an important 1-0 home win on Tuesday night against Flint Town, in which a Jordan Evans strike not long after half time was enough to get them over the line. Evans is a man in form at the moment with 10 goals in 11 games and the Druids defence will have to be on their toes tonight to limit his chances in front of goal. The Robins are 3 points ahead of Haverfordwest at the top of the Play-Off Conference and are looking to earn a chance of European football this season.
Druids come into this match following a tough loss away at Aberystwyth Town on Tuesday night. We have been rotating the squad and giving opportunities to our rising academy players as the season concludes, and we may see something similar tonight. Max Pritchard and Brad Knight got their first Cymru Premier starts on Tuesday and both put in solid, hard-working performances with Mitchell Williams and Harry Fuller also getting minutes in the league. All four have an exciting future and prove the opportunities available for our young players who show the right attitude.
Some other team news: Naim Arsan and Phil Mooney are doubts tonight, however Josh Green and Aaron Simpson are hoping to be available after returning from suspension and injury respectively. Our four academy prospects will also be hoping for more minutes in the Cymru Premier if they are given the nod tonight.
Our previous fixture with The Robins at The Rock yielded six first half goals. Again, it has the potential to be a high scoring, exciting game tonight. Druids showed a great work rate and intensity for long periods at Aber. If we can maintain that for the full 90 minutes tonight there is no reason why we can’t get a positive result.
Come on you Druids!
More than just a football club.
