Saturday the 5th December saw our Foundation Phases return for another great day of football against very good opposition, being Connah’s Quay Nomads FC. What was great to see was that every age group took 2 teams, maximising playing time for all squad members and it was clear to see that everyone, including coaches and family on the side, were enjoying themselves and the beautiful game.

Onto the U8s, who again put in a fantastic performance and are starting to become one of the most consistent squads at the club! They have set a very high standard, and continually show great levels of football for their age that received plaudits from everyone looking on. The players and coaches can be really proud of themselves in how they are representing Cefn Druids. Rhys Roberts received player of the match for his team with an unbelievable 6 goal tally, with hattricks in both games and Osian Roberts getting player of the match for his team after an excellent performance, capped off with his first goal for the club. Well done all!

For the U9s, it was the first time in over a month that they have had the whole squad back fit, and they were all brilliant. What was great to see was a level of maturity on the ball, far beyond their years. They didn’t panic in possession and showed some outstanding passages of play against a very good Connah’s Quay side. The hard work and effort was there to see from the first whistle and the boys didn’t stop for the entire game. Louie Hammond had a standout performance and was solid as a rock at the back. Finn Williams, who also stepped up a year group showed some great qualities throughout the game. Anton Williams and Harry Jones were pulling the strings in midfield and were both excellent. Overall, it was one of their best performances of the season so far and everyone should be proud of themselves!

The U10s showed some great individual performances and it was clear to see that their group cohesion they have been working on in training is beginning to show. They were encouraging and working for each other and are just going to get better and better. It’s great to see their development in such little time and everyone at the club can’t wait to see more! The stand out performance was again Lucas Braisdell who stepped up and played for the U11s in their matches afterwards! Well done Lucas and to the whole team, keep going guys!

Finally, the U11s got off to a shaky start, which can happen to any football team even at the highest level. The impressive thing was that they never gave up as a team, where others maybe would. The U11s kept trying to play their game and began to start competing. They played some really nice football that was easy on the eye for all watching. Both keepers, Owen Elsworth and Jack Fischer pulled off some spectacular saves and were organising their team from the back the entire game. Well done to the both of them and a great effort from everyone!

Overall, it was a great day of football for all involved. We’d like to thank Connah’s Quay for hosting us in a great environment and look forward to our next fixtures!
