Druids Announce New Technical Director

We are thrilled to announce Matthew Harris has taken over the vast new role of Technical Director at Cefn Druids.
For the past year, the club have been searching for the right person to lead the charge into the new era of Welsh football. We’ve decided to take a different approach and rather than an Academy Manager/Director, we’ve decided to go down the Technical Director route with a more hands-on approach and driven by the desire to improve all standards throughout the club.
To the outside world, this may seem semantics and just a change of title but in the world of Welsh football, it is a modernisation that we needed. Something the club hopes will ensure we don’t have a repeat of the dreadful two seasons during COVID lockdowns and restrictions that saw us relegated.
There is a common misconception, that the sole responsibility of the Technical Director is the recruitment of players. This isn’t the case, our Technical Director will will have an all-encompassing role that takes ownership of the direction and development of players, our coaches and the coaching programs within the club environment.
They will have overall responsibility for and the overseeing of the club’s playing philosophy, academy, training ground, player contracts, the recruitment of both players and coaches as well as casting an eye over the medical and sports science departments. Our Technical Director will bring together these different departments and look after the medium to long term interests of the football club. They will understand the importance of cultivating and maintaining a strong philosophy and culture within the club.
After an extensive search, we have found the right person and its someone that not only shares our vision but has the skills, experience and drive to improve and exceed our expectations. They are also familiar with EPPP and will ensure that it works effectively and has the technical skills to deliver on the pitch and in the boardroom.
We’d like to give a warm welcome to Matthew Harris. A pleasure to have you with us!
More than just a football club.
