Connah’s Quay v Cefn Druids. Match Preview
On Friday evening, Druids travel to the Deeside Stadium to finally play a game of football! The last competitive game we played was at home to Penybont over a month ago before the lockdown, and with last week’s game postponed due to a Covid-19 case within the Haverfordwest squad, the lads are itching to play again.
Our return to action comes as a tough task away to last season’s champions Connah’s Quay. The Nomads have only lost once this season, away to current leaders TNS and a win for them on Friday would see them close the gap on TNS to 3 points. Last week, the Nomads played out a very eventful 2-1 away win at Caernarfon, which saw a late penalty to win the match, and a series of big challenges lead to a brawl in the closing minutes, resulting in red cards for both sides. Nomads keeper Lewis Brass and defender Callum Roberts were sent off, both now suspended for Friday’s game.
Earlier this season, Druids hosted Connah’s Quay in a disappointing 5-0 loss at the Rock. However, the extended break from football has given time for the numerous injuries picked up earlier in the season to recover and players awaiting International Clearance to come through. Joe Faux, Cody Ruberto, Chris Aziamale and Phil Mooney will all be available, as well as the returning signing of Ryan Kershaw, giving Bruno and the coaching staff more options in how they want to set up against our opposition.
Although a slow start to the season, Druids have not fallen out of sight, a win on Saturday could see us escape the bottom of the table to be only 2 points behind 9th, with two games in hand still to play, which would put us right back into the mix. It will be interesting to see if the extended time off has allowed Druids to reset and return to football with newfound energy. Everyone at the club is looking forward to it!
