Cefn Druids Keeper Development Pathway

Head Goalkeeping Coach Clive Davies spoke with the club about his visions for the keepers at Cefn Druids FC and the opportunities in front of them.

In the lead up to the Six Week Goalkeeping Camps being held at The Rock, it was great to speak to Clive to hear his ideas and plans for the future. We can’t wait to welcome everyone when the camps begin and start training in a fun, engaging environment.

Clive said,

“With the development and success of Ben Edwards coming through the academy and making 1st team appearances between the sticks, it has made me reconsider my current coaching model with the Druids academy keepers. I am ripping up the manual and will now introduce an accelerated development pathway for the U16 keepers Morgan Read and James Sloan, who will initially train an additional once a month with the 1st team keepers Michael Jones and Ben Edwards, alongside their academy training. They will drill with the 1st team keepers, learning aesthetically and working technically, they will also work on the outfield game which is the next string to their bows. Introducing them to the 1st team, I am looking to give the keepers the opportunity to learn from experienced keepers as well as the coaching voices, as we work on the technical side of their game within the academy sessions, but this is a better opportunity to turn the functional knowledge into a skill and give the young keepers confidence along the way.  Both the Chairman, Des Williams and 1st team Manager, Niall McGuinness endorse this pathway and welcome both keepers in and are supporting their journeys. I truly believe that this pilot pathway will have a positive affect on James and Morgan’s confidence and game development. Training at this level will enhance their skillsets and reinforce the knowledge they already hold.  This is the commitment that Cefn Druids offer the youth in order to become successful to the best of their ability.”

Exciting times are ahead as both the keepers and outfields academy players will follow a similar structure and pathway to help them reach their potential and hopefully uncover some more 1st team stars!

The Goalkeeper camps begin on the 19th July and run until the 26th August and there are still spaces available! To book your place, please fill out the form at: https://t.co/Ovw9kpCUcz?amp=1
