Cefn Druids appoint ex-Premier League star Andy Turner as Academy Head of Coaching

Cefn Druids are thrilled to announce former Tottenham, Portsmouth and Crystal Palace midfielder Andy Turner has taken the reigns as our Academy Head of Coaching.

A highly qualified, ambitious and forward thinking football coach, Andy Turner has made the successful transition into first team coaching following a highly successful 13 year career as a professional player in the English Premier League. He has a proven track record of specialising in the development of young football players.

A confident, dynamic and approachable coach who utilises effective leadership, organisation and communication skills to lead teams on to successful performances. Andy’s sessions seem to always have a positive, supportive environment from which players learn and develop their technical, tactical and physical capabilities.

He has developed a wealth of experience throughout his coaching career. His last role was with the Bangladesh Football Federation as the Lead Academy Coach and U19 Head Coach. He has also been the Port Vale Academy U13, U15 & U16 Coach, Nottingham Forest U15 Coach, Wolverhampton Wanderers U10s Academy Coach and was at Chasetown FC as First Team Head Coach and Scholarship Academy Manager.

As the new Druids Academy Head of Coaching, Andy will oversee the running of the academy and manage the development of the players. He will also use his vast experience as an FA Mentor to help develop the academy coaches in their careers.

“My vision for the sustainability for the club has always been about the development of our players and coaches,” said Druids Chairman Des Williams.

“Andy shares that vision and has the drive and determination to help us get to where we need to be. He has the experience and proven track record of player development, and he will have total control on how our vision is implemented” added Williams.

Jayson Starkey, who has been the Head of Coaching at the club for two years will act as an assistant to Andy Turner in the interim.

Turner starts his new role on September 1st 2021! A big statement from the club to get someone with such an established career and experience to come in and lead our academy forward. Andy is exactly the type of coach Druids are looking to attract and we can’t wait for him to begin and push us in the right direction!
