Andy Turner Takes on First Team Manager Role Permanently

Former Premier League and Republic of Ireland winger takes the helm at Druids.

Cefn Druids FC have confirmed the appointment of their caretaker manager Andy Turner. The former Tottenham winger and Republic of Ireland international had been placed in temporary charge since the departure of Niall McGuinness, but will now remain in control, and look to continue developing the squad and improving performances on the pitch.

Since taking over at The Rock, Turner has overseen a lift in the squad as well as the development of the academy players coming through the ranks.

“I am really pleased. I had a conversation with Andy a few months ago and he took on the role as a caretaker but the difference in approach and professionalism is there for all to see and so I offered him the opportunity to manage the club, which he’s accepted” said Druids Chairman Des Williams.

“Having stepped up under difficult circumstances, I am pleased with the way in which Andy has implemented an attractive style of play. It has been a difficult few months but I believe this signals the start of a new chapter at the club and that this is the best possible outcome for the fans, players and staff. Andy and his coaching team have stepped up to the mark and hopefully our form will continue to go from strength to strength under his leadership.”

Andy shared his thoughts on the news and his vision for the club,

“I’m delighted to be given the green light to take the club forward along with a fantastic group of people around me. I will continue to give 110% for the club and supporters, along with the squad we are putting together. Those that know me, know I am a positive person and an eternal optimist, and we go into the rest of the season with a siege mentality and give everything!”

Turner will combine his first team duties with his full time role as Head of Coaching. His coaching team of Gareth Flitcroft, Luke Bailey, Levi Challoner and Sue Jones will take most of the day to day first team detail.

We return to league action this Friday night against Caernarfon Town FC. With fans allowed back in, we look forward to seeing you at The Rock for some live football and to support the lads!

More than just a football club.
