Another great set of fixtures for our academy sides who played Colwyn Bay over the weekend, with our U14s earning a massive achievement in their game against Airbus.
A great overall performance from the team and some superb individual showcases. The 11s grew into the game as it progressed and played some great football, finished off with good levels of execution in the final third. A huge well done to all the lads with MOMs going to Owen Elsworth and Oliver Rhys Jones.
A bit of a slow start from the boys but once they got into the game, they began to play some good football in what was a very scrappy and physical match. As usual, it was very hard to pick an individual as all players performed excellently. In defence, Finley Couzens was solid as ever and created a headed goal with a perfect delivery from a free kick. Rhys Ineson ran his heart out in midfield, pressed every ball, winning first and second balls throughout. Finally, in attack, Harri Edwards scored one of the best goals seen at the academy ever! But besides this, his work rate off the ball to press for the team was second to none. Well done lads!
Another great professional performance against a strong oppositional outfit. The lads maintained a good defensive balance throughout the game and remained consistent off the ball. MOM goes to Toby Wynne but a big congratulations to all the lads on another excellent display!
The standout match of the weekend. The lads played Airbus academy and won, meaning they were crowned champions of their league with 1 match to spare! An outstanding achievement for the coaches and players as well as the club. The togetherness of the players, parents and coaches has been amazing all season and every player, including the subs were outstanding on the day. MOM goes to Billy Roberts at centre back who put on a real captains performance in a high pressure game. He was solid throughout, made some great interceptions and got the better of the Airbus attackers. Well done to all involved on a brilliant achievement!
The 15s have had a season of transition with a lot of change compared to previous ones, however for the past 5-6 months the performances have been getting better and better every week. All the player’s attitudes have been brilliant and the hard work they put in on the field is a credit to them. MOM goes to Will Cooke who battled hard as the number 9 and created a lot of chances up front. Another great all-round performance from him. Well done all!
Both teams played very well, especially in the difficult circumstances at Colwyn Bay. Our opponents conducted themselves very well and credit to them, played some very nice football at times. The Druids lads were also excellent and dominated large parts of the game. It’s been great to see the constant evolution of all the players within the group and their attitude and application to what’s being asked of them by the coaches. MOM goes to Ryan Powell who was outstanding and controlled the game from the centre of the park on and off the ball. A great individual performance but a congratulations to all the lads.
Overall, another great weekend of fixtures for our academy sides topped off with our U14s winning the league. An outstanding achievement and a huge congratulations to them from everyone at Druids.
More than just a football club.
